Enemies - Devlog #1
Spiritwood » Devlog
Using Mohit's enemy templates (for the state machines), I've added several enemy types that should interact with the different player mechanics. Names are placeholders for now, as are sprites (well, the lack of).
- Minotaur: the minotaur is a large enemy that focuses on close range attacks. Straying too far from it will allow it to use its charge, a high-knockback attack that forces the player to dash to the side to avoid it.
- Spider: unlike the minotaur, the spider aims to slow you down by shooting webs (with a cooldown) that prevent dashing on top of reducing movement speed. It will retreat if you get too close, but may bite you if you end up next to it.
- Turret: the turret is a stationary enemy that tests the player's reflecting abilities. It starts with a shield that the normal arrows cannot damage. Instead, the player must reflect the projectiles to break the shield, then once it's gone the player can damage it as normal.
- Wolf: the wolf is a simple melee enemy, but the catch is that it can summon other wolves to assist it after a few seconds. The new wolves are unable to summon wolves of their own.
- Ghost: the ghost is more of an annoyance than anything. It spends much of the time invulnerable and invincible, with the main window for attacking being once it closes in for an attack.
- Mage: the mage is a long-range spellcaster that can fire damage-over-timer lasers and tracking fireballs (on with each spell having its own cooldown) at the player. It also can teleport around for less predictable movement.
What's next: now that I have the enemies, it's time for the fun part: the loot. Killing enemies will allow you to get their parts, which you may sell to get gold and buy upgrades.
